Andrea Rutz has been a patent attorney at Isler & Pedrazzini AG since 2008 and a partner since 2020. He has headed the patent and design department of Isler & Pedrazzini AG since 2020.
His practice focuses on the fields of medical technology, mechanical engineering, injection molding technology, electrical engineering and information and communication technology. Andrea Rutz has extensive experience in patent prosecution proceedings before the patent offices of the most important industrialized nations. He also regularly advises and represents clients in contentious proceedings concerning the validity of patents, in particular in opposition and nullity proceedings. In addition to patent law, he also has many years of experience in design law.
Andrea Rutz studied electrical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (Diploma 2003). After completing his diploma thesis at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, he developed new methods for investigating cardiac motion using magnetic resonance imaging as part of his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zurich (Dr. sc. ETH, 2008).
Since 2015, Andrea Rutz has been involved as a CEIPI tutor in the basic training of prospective patent attorneys.
He has been an accredited IP Special Coach at Innosuisse since 2019 and advises start-ups on developing their IP strategy.
In 2022, Andrea Rutz completed the diploma “Patent Litigation in Europe” at the University of Strasbourg, which entitles him to directly represent clients before the Unified Patent Court of the EU.
