Trademark Protection Abroad

The easiest and most efficient way to protect trademarks abroad is to file an International Registration according to the Madrid System. More than 100 countries can be claimed by an International Registration and more and more countries become members of the Madrid System. If you want to know which countries can be claimed through an International Registration, please see the separate list «International Trademark Registrations».

Protection in the countries of the European Union can also be claimed by filing a Community Trademark application. This is also a single application which is valid for all countries of the European Union. The European Union can also be claimed by filing an International Registration.

In all other countries it is necessary to file a national application for each country. If you want to know, in which country national applications have to be filed, please see the list «Other Countries».
